of the Thinkpad T40p going freeze. It’s seeing the ports but unable to
read anything useful from them. It means the laptop’s USB can’t use
for camera, drawing tablet, mp3 player, or any devices.

The Thinkpad T40p with the problem of USB not recognized like above is
likely to be BIOS/CMOS related. The following steps to fix it are
quite technically advanced. However, that’s worth to try.

Firstly, you need to backup all of your data including drivers and
files you may want to keep. And then remove the CMOS// BIOS battery
from your system to wipe your CMOS/ BIOS settings and return them to
original factory settings. To do this, you need to disassemble your
Thinkpad T40p laptop until you can access into the IBM LENOVO system,
and you can free removing the battery. Once these all was done, you
can follow the next steps below:

- Adjust the jumper settings on the motherboard to clear the CMOS/BIOS.
- Placed the jumper onto the clear CMOS/ BIOS setting
- Leave it there about 10-15 seconds to wipe the current settings
- Replace the CMOS/BIOS battery only with a new battery
- Reload the system, followed by device drivers, and then each
individually program after that.

After doing the followed steps above but the Thinkpad T40p USB still

  • There is a bug found at Lenovo W500 4058-CTO which running x64 Vista
Ultra by using latest 5th Jan drivers. One who’s experience in this
problem said that he’s got random clicking/popping noises during WMP11
MP3 audio playback on speakers/headphones. Whereas Bluetooth AD2P
headset has no issues, so mp3 and WMP is fine.

It might the Lenovo W500 4058-CTO driver before Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M
SATA AHCI Controller version 8.8.0.1009 update possibly the caused.
Seems like it must have been so inefficient and stalling the system
for large periods of time. So to resolve these random clicking/popping
noises on W500 4058-CTO speakers/headphones, the first thing you can
try is updating Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller to version
    8.8.0.1009.

    This update version will solved:
    - Audio popping and clicking when using internal soundcard
    - Bluetooth mouse freezing and stalling
    - Make the EMU 0404 USB soundcard works. He said, previously it only
work with ASIO latency of more than 300ms which is not useable now it
    is operational at 5ms.

That’s better that all Lenovo W500 4058-CTO users update their driver
to Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller version 8.8.0.1009 that can
get a release on the Lenovo’s website.
