Fixing External Hard Disk that Not Work

Posted by: admin In: Laptop Tips

Western Digital external drive used for PS3 or Xbox 360 is able and it
should be worked fine. Basically, the hard drive didn’t have a problem
at all. But if you pulled the plug on the drive while it was still
writing without using “safely remove hardware” to make the power down
first, it was possible to damage your hard drive. So, always do this
and disconnect the drive before removing it.

In case your Western Digital external drive still can’t use on the
computer, first you can try to plug in other USB plug. Better use one
on the back of the computer. If it was, and still no work, try to plug
in the USB drive before you turn on the computer. Or try to plug in
the USB drive after the computer is on. Then followed this steps:

Open the USB controller under the device manager.
Uninstall one with a yellow check mark
Scan for hardware changes. Here, windows should reinstall the USB
driver and make your Western Digital external drive can works normally
back.

The other way if this method above didn’t work, you can set your
Western Digital USB driver letter; better give it as X, Y or another
high. But you must tell windows to give your Western Digital external
device another drive letter. To do this, right click on “My Computer”
and go to “Manage”. Go to “Disk Management”. There you should see your
USB drive listed. Now right clicks on the USB drive and then choose
“Change drive letter and paths”. This will give you the opportunity to
change it to an unused drive letter.
