If you need to install XP into HP Pavilion 6735s laptop, please be carefull. My frend has just meet the error problem during installation. After change SATA drive to IDE, create partition hard drive, format and restart the notebook, he found error messages. “NTLDR is Missing”.

But don’t worry, to solve this problem, you may just need to delete all partition again, and please make it sure that you’ve installed XP in the first partition. The problem will be solved. Enjoy Xp in the HP Pavilion 6735s.

Hi! I’m trying to install Vista in a laptop HP6735s. It came originally with Vista, but I want to instal XP instead. Problem is: after loading all the controllers, when it should go to the screen offering the different options for installation, it just shuts down, and a screen appears reporting error as:

stop 0×0000007B
(0xF78DE524 0xC0000034 0xC00000000 0xC00000000)

Can anyone tell what’s going on?
The XP I’m installing has SATA drivers, and I have succesfully installed it in other PC and a notebook.
Anyway, my guess is that maybe it does not have the driver for that specific hard drive.
How do I change SATA drive to IDE (the BIOS set-up apparently does not have this option, or I can’t see it), or create a partition in the hard drive?

Thanks in advance for any advise.

Note that you either have to include the specific SATA driver in the WinXP install disc (using an ISO builder like nLite or similar) or load it from another source (floppy etc).

I had a similarly problem. I think it’s chip related. That means that HP could have installed a chip that restricts you to running only windows vista on that system. That’s usually one of the ways these big computer companies kiss up to Microsoft.

To most people, Vista sulk. They prefer XP -the devil they know to Vista – the devil they don’t know. But Microsoft wants to make sure you use it. So when you buy most hardware, you are just buying license to use what Microsoft determines you should use. Not good, Not good…

Wonder why most people hate Microsoft.

Anyway I digress, Go to HP site and download a new version of your BIOS (HP probably fixed this after they couldn’t stand any more calls from customers). Flash your motherboard and you should be able to install windows xp successfully. Happy BSOD.

I have a HP 6735s as well. But the trick is that it is fresh new, and there is no OS on it, just a hp startup “thing”.
I tried installing XP, but I have the same error message as Hector.

Now, because I don’t have any kind of OS on the amchine, not even Vista, I don’t really know where to start. Help me here please..

While booting the computer, press ESC to go to BIOS, there, instead of AHCI (or whatever it is called) select IDE mode for the hard drive.
