Posted by: admin In: HP Compaq

My friend has HP Pavilion dv6700 laptop. Unfortunately, he found that his fingerprint reader is not detected anymore. have you ever found this same error problem? maybe this simple tricks will help you to solve the problem.

Actually, You only need to roll back your fingerprint reader driver. Follow this step: Click Start button, choose control panel, goto Device Manager. You have to locate “Personal Identification Devices” and click “+” button on the life side. You may need to right click on “Authentec Inc. AES2501A”, choose properties, and go to Drivers Tab.

Click “Roll Back Driver”. This may fix your problem, good luck.

I haev a dv4 HP laptop and it’s failing to detect the reader from time to time. I purchased in October and HP tech support told me to do three updates (BIOS, Chipset and Validity Sensor, aka Fingerprint Reader) – These have failed to fix the problem.

I can’t roll back the driver, apparently it’s the latest. What version of the driver do you have installed, maybe I can find a copy.

My symptoms: Fingerprint reader fails and a “Unknown USB Device” is detected. Will not work again until a system restart. If it locks it simply says “Reader Not Detected”

Once it failed to work even after a system restart, just said “Reader Not Detected” at startup.

They told me if a system restore doesn’t work (And I don’t think it will, as it seems to be a driver problem) that I’ll have to do a mail-in return. Ugh.

Any tips out there?

Rolling back the driver also did the trick for my HP dv9700 laptop. The following version is working for me: AuthenTec AES2501A driver with Driver Date: 8/27/2007 Version 7.9.0.4

Thanks for the post.

I just got a fix from HP that worked for me. I tried all of the procedures suggested above, and they did not work. This fix consists of two simple procedures:

1. Release the ‘flea’ (static) power from hardware components
2. Reset the BIOS

I don’t know which one fixed the problem, because I did both before rebooting. Here are the steps from HP:

Procedure 1: Release the ‘flea’ (static) power from hardware components
A static discharge is done to remove all the static charge that may have been stored on your notebook, as this static charge can interfere with the applications running in the processor and may cause such issues.

1. Disconnect the power cord from the Notebook.
2. Remove the battery as instructed below.
3. Slide and hold the battery release latch to the unlock position.
4. Use your finger to grasp the notch on the bottom of the bezel and slide the battery out of the battery bay.
5. Press the Power button for 30 Seconds and release.
6. Reseat the Battery as instructed below.
7. Slide the battery into the battery bay until the battery release latch clicks.
8. Now connect the AC Adaptor, and press Power button for 5 seconds to turn the Notebook ON.
Step 2: Remove all external devices and reset BIOS to defaults :
This step would make the notebook hardware to revert back to factory specified electrical and thermal operating limits.
* Power on your notebook.
* Immediately press the F10 key on the keyboard to enter the system BIOS menu.
* Press the F9 key to reset the BIOS defaults.
* Press the F10 Key to save the changes and restart the computer

I have a HP dv3-1075 Entertainment PC and i just installed Windows 7 and now notice that my fingerprint scanner and all the touch-sensitive buttons on the top portion of the computer do not work either. Where the mute and play buttons and everything like that are. I have also noticed that my web cam is no longer working and I am just wondering what happened and how to fix it?
