i had the same problem but the answer is so freaking stupid. Ik tried installing all the software again and again but no cure. Then I read on a forum that i just needed to get the battery out for several second and it worked!! One single tip after doing that if it is normal again but doenst responend look for launch maganer on your pc.

Summary:
shut pc down en get battery out
if i doenst responend then open launch manager

I could not believe the solution until I did it myself. Shutting the computer down and restarting didn’t help but getting the battery out did the trick!

I had the same problem with my acer 6920. I too, shut down the computer, unplugged the a/c, took the battery out and held the power button in for about 30 seconds. Then I put the battery back in, plugged the a/c cable back in and powered up. PRESTO!!! The media control center worked again. I just hope that this is not a recurring event. I have had my 6920 for about two months.

I was ready to throw the computer across the room. Was stuck in a constant restart and going directly to the arcade deluxe media program, no other settings. Also would show Windows XP load screen for about 5 sec before jumping into the arcade deluxe. Could not get it to shut down so finally took the battery out. Glad to see that I’m not the only one with this problem. Hopefully Acer will offer something to fix this issue.

Yes. It seems to be a problem with the models containing CineDash Media Console. The solution is so simple, but shouldn’t be like that, i mean, this problem should not even exist. These models are sort of expensive (mine includes a blu-ray lector), and Acer should compensate or solve this problem in a profesional way.

Take care you all! :)

Genius! Bless you! Like others, I got “expert” advice about needing to wipe the drive back to the factory settings and reinstall everything. Thank heavens I thought to do a simple search engine query first. This is ridiculously simple yet totally non-obvious. Thank you for sharing the fix!

Well happened to me this morning at work, no access to another comp to google issue, panic rising thinking all my bookeeping I updated yesterday but not saved anywhere else.. first thought was try remove battery and hey presto, come to google problem before thinking on sending back so pretty relieved to see is an issue with aspire and I dont have to go without laptop whilst sending back…
but yes a fix needed indeed, if I had rang up helpdesk and told to format then found this solutionI would have been pretty mad!
shall always make removing battery a first if anything else goes wrong……
(needless to say bookeeping backed up will be a first priority after the heart stopping moment ^^)

i installed windows 7, after no work of the cinedash.

solution:
1. download latest version of launch manager from acer
2. unzip the file and right click “properties”
3. goto kompatability and select “vista”
4. install the launch manager
finished

note: the launch manager includes the driver for the cinedash

I had the cinedash freeze, also the on-screen volume display was showing all the time… very annoying.

This works perfectly. I have it working on my aspire 8920
Getting the CineDash Media Console and Launch Buttons working
If you have problems with either the CineDash Media Console or Launch buttons then you will be happy to hear that the solution for fixing these is easy!
The first thing that you will need to do is install the “Launch Manager” which can be downloaded off the Acer website. Go to http://www.acer.com and click the service support, then driver download. Go to your model. Download the Launch Manager here (hosted here) or go to the acer site and find it there. The filename should be “Kilimanjaro_v2.0.00_Vistax32×64_XPx32×64.zip” the version of Launch Manager under the Windows Vista operating system .This will get the Email, Web and Empowering Technology buttons working with their default settings. If you need to change what the buttons do, you can launch the application named “Launch Manager” in the start menu.
Uninstall any previous version of Launch Manager
The solution to my problem was to get the Launch Manager to run in compatibility mode for Windows Vista Service Pack 2.
Unzip. Explore the new folder and right-click Setup.exe.
To do this go to the Launch Manager Install directory (C:\Program Files\Launch Manager ), right-click on “setup.exe”, select the “troubleshoot compatibility” tab, check the “Troubleshoot program” check box and then click “The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won’t install or run now”. Then select “Windows Vista Service Pack 2”. Then click “Start” program. Now everything should work properly! It will install. But don’t reboot yet!
Now locate and explore the freshly installed folder in your program files directory – (probably C:\Program Files (x86)\Launch Manager or C:\Program Files\Launch Manager depending on if you are running 64-bit or 32-bit)
right-click on “LManager.exe”, select the “troubleshoot compatibility” tab, check the “Troubleshoot program” check box and then click “The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won’t install or run now”. Then select “Windows Vista Service Pack 2”. Then click “Start” program. Now everything should work properly! It will install.
Reboot and enjoy properly synced volume, and fully functioning buttons.
