  • After have MAC OS X 10.5.6, VMware Fusion 2.0.2(146107), and Solaris 9 Update 8, the one user has to install by following instructions in the Guest OS Guide. But then he’s got a message says “Action Required” dialog indicating the “DT messaging system could not be started.” And then when checking network settings the “AMD 79C970 PCnet Ethernet” interface identified during the software load does not appear to be available.

    Actually if you read the VMware Fusion System Requirements – Guest Operating Systems well you will see the only one listed is “Solaris
    x86 10 11/06 (Update 3)”, so if you use MAC OS X 10.5.6 and Solaris 9 Update 8 you might never have recognized drivers by the install
    process despite the OS installation the network configuration was complete.

    To resolving the problem of MAC OS X 10.5.6, VMware Fusion 2.0.2(146107), and Solaris 9 Update 8 installation you can try
    switching the Fusion virtual network adapter type to E1000 rather than the default AMD PCnet (modify the .vmx file to do this).

    Go to VMware Fusion (menu bar) => Help => VMware Fusion Help => Navigating VMware Fusion => Using the Virtual Machine Library Window
    => Determine the location of a virtual machine’s files

    Add the following line to the target Virtual Machine’s .vmx configuration file by use TextEdit by ctrl-click the Boot Camp
    partition.vmx file and select Open With => Other… => TextEdit.

    ethernet0.virtualDEV = “e1000″

    It doesn’t matter where in the file as long as it’s one its own line.

    And one important thing is ensure the target Virtual Machine is shutdown, not suspended and Fusion is closed when you edit the target Virtual Machine’s .vmx configuration file.
